Jump to section

The past few months have been tough, to say the least. The Coronavirus pandemic has left nearly 19 million unemployed Americans scrambling to find new sources of income. With the strict guidelines in place for businesses and the influx of distressed job seekers, the job market is more competitive than ever. Many are finding themselves going to job fair We've rounded up a handful of quick ways to make money fast during the COVID-19 crisis - all on your own schedule, and many without the need for a formal interview.

If you have been fortunate enough to come out of this with your job unscathed, then you can use these ideas to help pay down debt, add to your emergency savings account, or donate to a worthy cause.

Get paid to test apps and websites

Many companies are interested in finding out if their websites or apps are user friendly. They will pay real people (called user testers) to click and scroll through their sites and give feedback about their experience. No need for advanced technical skills or knowledge, you’ll be getting paid based on your honest feedback.

Some opportunities can be done online, all you will need is a computer with a web camera and a stable internet connection. While this is a great way to make some extra cash, make sure you are registering with a legitimate company and website! There are a lot of online scammers who prey on people looking to make quick and easy money.

Typically, user testers earn between $10 - $20 per hour, but some gigs may pay $40+ per hour.

Top user testing websites:

Earn money as an audio transcriptionist

Working as a transcriptionist can be a challenging and fun gig for those who have a strong work ethic and innate attention to detail! You will listen to recorded or live audio files and type out what you hear. There are transcriptionists in several different industries such as legal, medical, or general transcription.

As with any job, transcription work takes some time and practice to master. But, once you are comfortable, it is a wonderful gig that is flexible and pays well!

A typical transcriptionist's pay is generally around $15 per hour, while an advanced transcriptionist can earn closer to $25 to $30 per hour. If you are fluent in a second language, you can expect to make up to 3x the average amount as a freelance translator.

Top transcription websites:

Leverage the increased need for online tutors and teachers

A great majority of the country is encompassing distance learning this school year. That means millions of students are not receiving the same structure of education they are used to. You can offer virtual tutoring services in any subject from English, math, and science to ACT/SAT prep, art, and music! Whatever your area of expertise is, you can help a student in need.

On average, these gigs tend to pay very well, ranging from $20 - $50+ per hour depending on the subject, your qualifications, and the platform you are using.

Top tutoring websites:

Deliver food and groceries as a source of income

The COVID-19 pandemic has people wary of going to the grocery store and dining out. You can help support your local community while making some extra cash by applying to work for food delivery and meal services like:

Of course, you’ll want to make sure you’re following all federal and state guidelines for staying safe. Remember to keep your hands and car clean with frequent washing, hand sanitizer, and disinfectant wipes! Always have a clean mask or two in the car for when you make deliveries.

Typically, a delivery driver can expect to make between $12 - $21 per hour.

Provide childcare solutions

Many parents are in a predicament; some have to go to work, others have to continue their job search, and many just need a few minutes out of their day to get things done around the house.

Help save the day by providing babysitting, tutoring, or “mother’s helper” services to families who need an extra set of hands. You can set your own hours and rate of pay, making this a wonderfully customizable side hustle!
