Beat procrastination during COVID!

Due to the pandemic, our everyday routines have been greatly impacted.

Perhaps before the Coronavirus, you woke up each morning, spent time at the gym, had a cup of coffee, and then headed into work. Now today, you might have children at home with you, a house that needs cleaning, work that needs to be completed, and groceries that need to be shopped for without actually going into the store. In this new world, life can feel exhausting and it can also sometimes feel difficult to push yourself forward.

Here are some ways to keep procrastination in check!

Make a to-do list

This is key! Take a few minutes to set some goals for yourself. What do you want to accomplish by the end of the day? It doesn’t need to be complicated, just focus on what matters the most. A simple list is all you need. You can also set things to do for the week in addition to daily tasks.

Create a schedule

If you have things set to happen at around the same time every day you will be more likely to stick to the program you have set for yourself! Write it down on a piece of paper or a whiteboard and put it on your fridge. You could also use an app on your phone to create a new list every day as well or if you have an Alexa ask her to create a list or set a reminder.

Use an incentive

We all like a pat on the back for a job well done right? Well, be sure to plan to give yourself a little reward once you have accomplished a particular goal or task. Say to yourself, "If I do these five things then I will reward myself with..." Positive reinforcement goes a long way to help you get your tasks done!

Visualize the accomplishment

Think about how good it will feel once it’s done! Take a moment to imagine the sense of the satisfaction you will gain when you finally tackle the tasks you’ve been putting off.

Hold yourself accountable

Not sure you can do it alone? Consider getting a motivation buddy! Ask a friend or family member to complete similar tasks as you are doing. This way you can check in with each other! You could also consider sharing your to-do item(s) on social media so you can have support. If you start slipping into the procrastination zone, those around you will help you get back on track!

Take care of yourself

Lastly, make sure you are well-rested, hydrated and nourished. This will make it a lot easier to stay focused and motivated. BONUS if you can wake up early to concentrate on the tasks at hand without having to worry about other things disrupting your flow.

It's a challenge but I find that if I get half the things on the to-do list done, then I'm ok. Simply because I am adjusting to a slower pace.
