Jump to section

With stores in all 50 states in the U.S., Target Corporation is one of the biggest retailers in the country. Target is known for celebrating diversity and representing the surrounding communities with its employees. The company values different backgrounds and experiences, and is constantly seeking applicants with strong ties to the community, volunteer experience, and a positive attitude.

Below are helpful tips and information on applying to Target.

Ways to apply for a job at Target

  • Target allows candidates to apply online in the comfort of their homes, or by filling out a printable PDF application form

  • Applicants for corporate or office positions must submit a resume through the Target website

  • Those seeking in-store roles, from entry-level to management, can also go to a local Target and use the kiosk to fill out and submit an application

Minimum Age Requirement

All Target applicants must be at least 16 years of age. Anyone seeking employment at a Target distribution center must be at least 18.

Helpful tips for your Target application

  • The Target website advises candidates that the application process may take 45 minutes to complete. If you're applying online, make sure you can dedicate that time to complete the application process

  • You must be at least 16 years old (18 years old for distribution centers) and have legal proof of eligibility to work in the United States

  • Prior to filling out the application, be ready and have the following information handy

    • Social security number
    • Contact information: address, phone number, email
    • Education history
    • Employment history
  • Applicants must be able to start no later than 60 days after you've submitted the application
  • When you click to start, the Target application site will direct you to a screen where you can search for jobs.

    • Location(s): You will be able to search using your city and state or your zip code. Once you select the store locations, you will be then be prompted to select the position(s) you are applying for
    • Job position(s): Choices include front end, sales floor, grocery, assets protection, pharmacy and many more
    • Available job(s): After you choose the positions you are interested in, the website will direct you to a list of specific jobs that are available. Candidates may choose to apply to any job listed
  • All applicants must consent to a drug screening and background check

  • Expect to answer questions regarding your family’s use of food stamps, welfare, and Social Security Income. The application will also ask about veteran and disability statuses

Target's applicant questionnaire (personality test)

The applicant questionnaire is a 50-question personality test that helps hiring managers determine if a candidate will mesh well with the Target family. Take your time filling out this section — answer honestly and let your personality shine through. This is the first opportunity you will have to show the hiring manager that your ethics, beliefs, and values align with the company's.

Sample questions

  • Are you more tactful than most?
  • Do you have a rebellious streak?
  • Do you daydream often?
  • What percentage of people do you believe cheat on their taxes?
  • What percentage of politicians do you think are honest?

Additional helpful information when applying at Target

  • A college education is not required for employment at Target, although many of the Team Leads have college degrees

  • Working at Target usually requires a considerable amount of interaction with customers and coworkers. If you aren’t great with people, you probably won’t enjoy it

  • Target employees are required to wear khaki pants or skirts with red shirts. The shirt can be a polo shirt, t-shirt, hoody, or sweater; the only requirement is that it is fully red

  • Employees must be friendly and physically able to stand, bend, climb up and down ladders, and frequently lift or move merchandise up to 40 pounds

  • Target expects employees to work assigned shifts, which can fall outside of normal daytime hours. This employer may not be able to accommodate daycare hours or other scheduling dependencies
