If your resume is looking a little on the sparse side don’t despair! Did you know there are certain things that you can add to your resume that may help push you to the top of the pack? Check out some things you may have not even considered before!

Volunteer work

This can really help you to beef up the experience section of your resume! Although you weren’t paid this does not mean that you did not earn the experience. In fact, some organizations even provide titles to their volunteers to help create a sense of recognition. Remember as you are adding this section in to treat this as you would any paid job by showcasing your accomplishments and what you learned during your time volunteering there. Bonus points if you can tie in what you did with your career path!

Things you learned

Did you take a class or earn a certification at work? Did you receive on the job training? Add those things in! If you learned something new at work, whether you learned it in a classroom, online, or from another employee, they are all valid and should be included.

Relevant hobbies

Hobbies such as photography, writing or graphic design can demonstrate creative accomplishments and portfolio building skills! It shows that you took the initiative to learn talents outside of your required skill set and make you a more desirable candidate.

Unfinished projects you worked on

If you spent time working on something significant mention it! It won’t matter if the project came to a close or not as long as you can support it with reasons that you grew professionally. Have numbers or specific details to showcase what you did? Add them in!

Tasks that weren’t apart of your job description

If you performed certain things that weren’t apart of your original job description make sure to mention them. Job roles often can transition to be much different than they were originally so it’s important to stop and write down everything you did in your role and highlight the most desirable things to employers.

Perhaps for example you were a customer service agent and your typical duties included responding to customers via email. Then one day you found a faster more efficient way to reach customers and helped launch a live chat program. What you show to an employer may have them thinking...“I wonder if he/she could do that for this company?”

Now that you have some new things to add why not consider...

Jack of all trades,.master of none

Updating your resume is also an important part of your life history.I have found things about my family that when younger I ignored. Much information is available for you in their resumes and yours will be a source of knowledge for your children and grandchildren in the future. It's your legacy of the good deeds you have done.
