Overcome Background Checks!

Hello Jobcaser’s!! Below are are some suggestions that may help you to overcome the background check dilemma limiting your job search potential:

Check Yourself…. get all the facts out before you start job searching and avoid surprises during the application process. Search online for a reputable background check service and pull your report to check for accuracy, report discrepancies, and discover what’s been removed from the report. Background Checks.org is 100% Free service where you can request Public Record information by state. Don’t forget to check your credit report too. Go to Annual Credit Report.com for a Free copy of your report.

Be Up Front… use the information found on the background check to prepare yourself to explain your situation. Be honest, direct, and explain your situation without getting too deep into details. Not sure how to prep? This is a hard step but don’t be discourage. Refer to this document with the 3R’s Method as a reference point to help get you started.

Seek Out Strong References… and ask for letters of recommendation or permission to include them as references on job applications. Make sure you check in with them first so they’ll be prepared to speak positively in detail about your character.

You're NOT Alone… ask other Jobcaser’s members for help or advice and reach out to your local community services specifically geared to provide to ex-offenders support services with resume building instruction, job search tips, continuing education options, and career training. CareerOneStop is an excellent online resource loaded with useful information and a search tool to find local support services.

Hope you find this helpful.

Re: Background checks.org is NOT free. It's free to request but if you want the report you have to pay either a one time fee or an annual fee. They say they're a free service at the beginning and then ask all these questions. After you complete all the questions, at the very end they say they couldn't possibly operate if they didn't charge for the service and then say you have to pay either $23 or $27, depending on how long you want to use the service, before you get the report. It seemed like a scam to me. They say one thing to suck you in then something else before you can get the results.

great tip, wish this and many, many, many, many more websites would follow it and BE UPFRONT ABOUT THE COST you will pay ALL THE WAY AT THE END OF THE PROCESS. The only thing worse then that is finding out the website is charging you monthly for some service they snuck in on you, otherwise helpful

Many many people are reporting the same thing. This is a commercial site that asks for a lot of personal information and a credit card. It is not free. Please make it clear to everyone.

Not helpful at all. In the very least this is false advertisement. And should be reported! Ripping people off to get yourself ahead! Thanks but no thanks, job case will never be used again.
