I have thoughts and feelings about this but am wondering what others think before I bias w my own thoughts. Did you see that Yahoo! just sold to Verizon? This is big news in the tech world. Yahoo was one of the originals, at one time their internet business alone was valued over $100billion - it sold for 4+ this week (fyi: for those checking, the stock ticker Yahoo reflects more the value of their ownership stake in ali-baba than the internet property itself). The latest CEO has been Marissa Mayer. She has her fans and she has her detractors. But throughout her tenure there has always been an echo of any reporting that covers her as a woman-CEO, as a special interest story next to the standard CEO articles. I know a lot of gender bias still exists in the workplace. I know most of it creates headwinds and political potholes and awkwardness than many women navigate each day. Here is an article in which Marissa is cited for the first time really addressing it. So Microsoft is the latest to talk about experimenting with the 4 day work week. I wonder - if you had a W2 job that only required 4 day work week would you use the extra day for (and how many would use the other 1-3 days to moonlight in another job to up annual earnings)?

(ps: I should confess that I bet a lot of our own employees at Jobcase are thinking "4 days? wow, I'd be happy with 5! - we certainly don't require beyond 5 days but this platform and company have succeeded for years by having the blessing of a team that is so dedicated they contribute a crazy amount during the week - not just 9-5x5)
What strategies do you suggest to overcome age-discrimination in the workplace?
We know how toxic and prevalent ageism is in the workplace. This study outlines some recent findings in this regard. But it's no news to anyone that discrimination happens, or that life can be unfair. And it's no pre-ordained outcome that when you run into age discrimination that it has to define your future success - just as knowing life isn't "fair" doesn't stop you from living an amazing, rewarding, happy meaningful life. Sure ageism can be a tough obstacle to overcome -but overcoming obstacles is something that everyone does as they navigate life and, in fact, overcoming unfair challenges can actually be quite rewarding.
So, whadaythink Jobcasers? If someone gets prematurely turned out, or denied a real look at a new opportunity - what strategies should they take to overcome that particular unfair obstacle??

I mean your relationship with the company you work for.
Some of the conversations people engage with here are constructive about what employers are doing - or should be doing and aren't - for us as workers. But what about what we should be doing for them?
If you are in any relationship - romantic, friendship, family, etc - you have expectations of how you expect to be treated and so does the other person. We know that these are dependent relationships. I mean, if a brother treats you poorly, you are unlikely to do him any favors. If a husband never helps a wife around the house (or vice versa) then the wife is prob unlikely to be in a good mood around the husband. So we all kinda know that if we want our expectations to be met in a relationship, that we need to meet the expectations of the other party too. So. Again. Hows your relationship with your company?
Are you working with purpose and intention? Are you rallying with extra effort when they are hitting headwinds? Are you trying to help and bolster people around you? Are you giving feedback to any perceived wrong actions by people in authority so they can get better with your feedback? We have so much control that we often don't see. If you find yourself wishing you were treated better at work, or happier in your duties, maybe you start by thinking what you can do first. When a relationship gets into trouble, someone needs to take a first step towards changing mutual behavior (even when they know they are in the right, sometimes you take the first step anyways). Then, if the good-will and dedication is not reciprocated - by all means find another job. Life is too short to work where you are not happy. But, lets all consider a riff on the JFK quote - Before you ask what your company can do for you, lets first ask what we can do for our company.
