What do you do if you feel you are too old for a job as a Security Officer?
I'm 66, and currently sitting out working due to sciatica and back issues. I've finally got my mobility back, but many security jobs here seem to expect me to do lifting up to 50 lbs. which is too much. My experiences over 20 years in this field is that they don't make exceptions for physical limitations, if you are in a position to sit, they find the most uncomfortable, ergonomically deficient seating, and your back hurts as bad after sitting as walking. Although I have worked with people older than I am, and they do a better job than the young folks. If I could find some place that could work with my limitations, I'd consider it, but the chances are not very good of that.
Don't work as a security officer.
I love working security, helping people and makeing post safe and secure
I'm in my 60s and still love it
It all depends on the post. If you have health issues and cannot stand for long periods of time, you make want to find a post that allows you to sit. I am 70 and work at an HOA so I am inside an office. I can sit and only stand when guests come in.
I have 9 years under my belt , next I’ll be signing up for another 5 , I enjoy my job now , in the first 5 tours , you go to the worst places, that the others guards don’t want to go too . The company you work for only needs a warm body at site to keep there eyes open an report any issues, if you are a armed officer, that firearm will not get you more money , training to use it will keep you alive out there so be careful.
At the last security job I had I worked with an 80 year old lady that did a better job than most of the younger workers. Age is not a factor, but rather your health problems you may or may not have.
I feel age has nothing to do with this line of work unless the person has a serious health issue
I have had coworker in security who were receiving SS (65 or older). It depends on the type of security job you have...there are stationary (both sitting and standing posts) and walking posts in an assigned building. The most physical assigned driving position checking the exterior of several building, stopping and checking the interior of buildings (walking all floors) consider your health problems if any
