Be Respectful of the Interviewers

Dress professionally, be on time, have all your proper paperwork, listen carefully, ask smart questions and most importantly, be yourself. You want them to like what they see and what they are going to get. Be respectful, be confident and you can live with any result you get.

How to get the job right away BEFORE the interview starts.
Don't sit down. Wait to be ASKED to sit, then THANK them and have a seat.
First impressions for the WIN!

Keep eye contact with them

I tell my kids this...
-Dress well.
-Eye contact
-Firm handshake but never so firm they want to shake their hand in pain. The inner part of your hand should touch theirs.
-Say thank you and please.
-Go to the bathroom before you arrive both to use the bathroom and look yourself over.
-Be yourself.
-Never lie. No one expects a young person to have an extensive background, it's a starting position.
-If you have nothing on your resume, work over a summer even as a volunteer place that will provide a contact.
-Include high school extra curriculars if you have no experience.
-If a resume is required, ALWAYS have someone good at grammar look it over. Even if you yourself are good with grammar, have a second set of eyes.
Just be yourself, you're a likeable person and will do just fine!
-Never talk about too much personal information even when asked. Practice not saying things...I'm always late for example.
-Have one flaw that is not terrible prepared. Some companies ask your worst and your best. What would you say is an area you can improve in... I think I would benefit from working on my organization skills. I have the basic skills from high school but being in an office environment would give me the opportunity to learn from people with more experience.
-Do a fake interview with a parent, teacher, local employment office counselor or smart friend.
-Have a small cup of water so you're not dry.
-Most of all relax, remember the person across the desk or table is just a person too and was once you. They know what it feels like to be starting out. You'll do great!
