Hello , the best thing is for you to try to just get your foot into the door , even if it is in another position like a hospital , ward clerk , then bam your already in the door then apply for a MA spot.

Heather, work with your placement department at your school. Complete your externship and chat with the managers that you are looking for a job or reference. Also, stay in touch with your classmates as they may get hired immediately and get you in. If you are unable to get a job seek out the CNA certification (My state was offering EKG certification, but I got a job). Don't take off the table applying for a medical secretary and inform the manager of your intentions.

I graduated in 1990 and then we went into an externship where my college placed us. If I could give you advice, try to into a specialty practice or research coordinator. That is where you can make your money . I did my career in cardiology , then went into clinical research . Made a lucrative career. Good luck!!

Your online classes is the experience- peer and instructor interaction, collaboration, brain storming, research work, test evaluation and benchmarking, learning and continuous improvement, planning work loads, project management, prioritizing tasks, adapting to obstacles, and efficiently accomplishing this with the latest technological tools.

Then ask the interviewer or yourself, how did the medical assistants currently working got their first experience? People die, move on or get sick. Someone new has to replace them.

Start looking at Assisted Living or Senior living facilities. Many will take younger folks after school with little or no experience. Remember if you have had other jobs such as retail experience, or babysitting etc -you can use those examples on your resume and interview to show -you already have customer service experience, as well as attention to detail, good time management as well as being a self starter. Use this as a stepping stone for the medical assistant position you want.

Being a student you are not going to find a job without experience. Try getting an externship and get hired from there. I had to start at an assisted living as an aide before I could get my foot in the door

If the school offers any type of internship where you get class credit for first hand experience, do it!
