Have you heard of having an interview over an app called telegram? Is that a scam?
Yes most likely it is a scam. Telegram is being used by scammers to get your personal info under the cloak of interviewing you. Here is a good article on this: https://www.wymt.com/2022/05/18/new-job-scam-targets-personal-information-using-messaging-app/
I just got hired for a work from home job. There are ALOT of scams out there yet you can definitely find something legit
It's best to go directly to the website of certain postings to make sure. If you arent sure call the actual company and ask. That's what I did
Telegram is starting to be used widely, similarly, to Google spaces - not sure for recruiting but would not surprise me. To safeguard, do not give personal info through Telegram and let them know you are not comfortable with this...easy-peasy!
I believe so do not give out bank information also watch out for Skype on line it's scram try to pretend you make certain amount money then ask for your bank information don't do it.
Very definitely a scam! Might be based on real company and real employees, but still a scam. Be especially wary if a company asks you to buy equipment from a specified retailer, especially if it's one you don't know. That's a cover for money laundering.
I fell for it: researched, did all I could, but refused to give them financial info. NEVER tell an interviewer who you bank with!
I would not down load Telegram. I think it is a scam.
1 month ago I found a job offering from Appen promoted by a person on FB. They asked me to download the app, Telegram, I tried but it wanted to connect with ALL my phone information., so I cancelled the download. I tried reaching out directly to that person on FB with no reply.
I’m glad I just read this about two hours ago I was offered a job for $30 an hour to work at home doing data. She told me I would have to go through this telegram thing to speak with the hiring manager. Thank you so much
I just had an interview on telegram with a person claimimg he was Stephen Squeri the CEO of American Express. I lead him on to see what he was phishing for. His spelling and grammar where suspicious as well. He "interviewed me" with some copy pasted questions and before I could finish answering them he congratulated me on such a fine interview. He then asked me if I had a credit card or if I used coinbase. I told him no. Then he tried to get my address(I gave him an old address) He then gave me a list of equipment I would need to do the job and said that I would be reimbursed and asked for my banking information. Hahaha fat chance. That's where I ended the conversation.
I had and interview on Telegram, and they asked all of he right interview questions. It was supposed to be from Ascend, and they said they provided the equipment and software. then he said" you have to purchase the software, but we'll send you a check to take to your bank, then take a picture of the deposit slip. After hearing that, I stopped replying, and they sent the 3500.00 check any way, thinking I was stupid enough to follow his instructions. I took it to my bank and asked the Rep, to contact the bank the check was drawn on nd let them know, this man is scamming people using their bank information. These scammer are so dirty
I think we should protect ourselves against this kind treat. I’m seriously looking for job, some how this people got my information my phone doesn’t stop ringing and non-stop messages with fake positions when they send the job description it doesn’t even match the tittle. I’m tired, unemployed and having to defend myself from this people.
