This position reports to the Director Technical Accounting. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting with the right mix of general accounting, technical accounting, financial analysis and communication skills to enable him/her to communicate effectively with Operations, Engineering and Leasing departments and collaborate with staff at all levels across various functions. This is a leadership role responsible for managing, coaching, and developing others. The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic team player who is detail-oriented with the ability to work independently. Must be detail oriented and possess a solid understanding of financial systems. Desire to streamline processes for efficiency. Position can be largely remote, with occasional travel to our Corporate Headquarters in Edinburg, VA.
Assist with technical accounting research and preparation of accounting position papers for new and unusual transactions
Assist with implementation of new process to ensure that significant contracts entered into in the ordinary course are subject to technical accounting review.
Manage the accounting of the Company's leases in conformance with ASC 842.
Manage the accounting of the Company's Asset Retirement Obligations (ARO) in conformance with GAAP.
Leverage software and technology to automate and continuously improve the processing lease and ARO transactions.
Assist with internal training across accounting and business operations teams to promote the importance of staying compliant with technical accounting matters
Develop and manage a team of professional staff.
Lead by example to coach and develop the team's internal control skills and effectiveness.
Prepare well-written variance analyses to identify and critically evaluate potential accounting issues.
Supervise monthly and quarterly lease and ARO reconciliations to manage a timely and high-quality close process.
Support the quarterly review and annual audit process with external audit teams.
Perform special projects and studies on accounting and control matters as requested.
Assist with the preparation of financial statement supporting schedules.
Key Skills and Experiences
4+ years of professional experience with at least 3 years in the audit practice of a Big 4 accounting firm
Certified Public Accountant & accredited bachelor's degree in accounting
Strong knowledge of US GAAP and recent internal control guidance
Previous supervisory experience required with strong coaching and development skills.
Excellent analytical ability, attention to detail, and ability to work independently and in teams.
Good oral and written communication skills required.
Excellent time management, planning and organizational skills.
Ability to work in multiple software platforms to synthesize and analyze relevant data.
