Our mission is to partner with the global education community to enable student and institutional success by leveraging innovative technologies and services.Blackboards Strategic Communications team is responsible for the management and execution of Blackboards media and analyst relations, internal and executive communications, and social media efforts. Working with leaders across the company, as well as members of Blackboards partner and customer communities, the fast-paced Strategic Communications team works to enhance and expand awareness of the company and steward Blackboards corporate reputation. The Internal Communications Director will play an integral role in identifying opportunities to strengthen employee engagement and to enhance employee understanding of the corporate strategy.As Internal Communications Director, you will report to the Senior Director of Strategic Communications and take a leadership role in creating, shaping, and managing a robust internal communications and employee engagement program for a global workforce. You will develop communications and messaging to foster greater community and increase brand ambassadorship among a geographically diverse employee base. You will lead and manage efforts to communicate organizational goals and initiatives. You will also focus on communications to support change management processes at the company, department, and team levels. Additionally, you will foster a two-way exchange between the employee base and management. You must be able to function not only as a leader and individual contributor, but also as part of a multi-faceted team of stakeholders including the companys leadership team, HR, Corporate Strategy team, and Strategic Communications.Specific responsibilities will include:Developing and managing strategic plan for internal communications and employee engagementWorking with Strategic Communications, HR, and executive teams to craft messaging and communications that foster employee engagement through understanding the company vision/plan/goalsIdentifying ways to increase/improve Blackboards reputation through brand ambassadorship across employee base; executing on these plans and working with cross-company teams when warrantedProviding internal communications support for the CEO and leaderships team; creating consistency in messaging across business linesCreating messaging and communications to support change management around new strategies and changes to company structure and processManaging and producing key internal communications channels including bi-weekly newsletter, articles for Intranet, presentations for quarterly employee calls, etc.Helping to develop and managing company-wide communications policy and governance processSupporting related communications activities where needed including public relations and external communications, executive speaking, and brand activationThe Candidate:Has 12+ years of communications experience, preferably employee communications in an agency or corporate environment; education industry experience desirableHas excellent writing, editing, spelling/grammar, messaging, and positioning creation skillsHas extensive experience in message development and communications planningHas experience with internal and/or external communications supporting company activities including M&A, reorganization, and change managementHas experience in shaping/managing corporate communications policyHas experience managing key infrastructure including company Intranet, HTML publishing, social tools, etc.Can build trust and productive working relationships with senior-level executives and key stakeholdersCan transform complex ideas into accessible, reader-friendly communicationsCan manage mulitple time-sensitive assignments simultaneouslyIs strategic, creative, and disciplined, and enjoys having a strong role in the development of communications while executing consistently and independentlyHas a strong personal leadership style, is comfortable with change, and can manage in a highly agile and collaborative environmentIs a driven, high-energy self-starter who is comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environmentEmbraces creativity with a data-driven mindsetHas an impeccable work ethicThe Team & Office:Blackboard has an office in the vibrant Plaza America in Reston, VA.Countless walkable places to eat lunch or dinner within the plaza including Grill Kabob, Mod Pizza, Brown Bag, and The Melting PotFree drinks in the officeHalf a mile from Reston Town CenterAccessible via Metro - Wiehle-Reston East- Silver line (approx. 1 mile from office)This job description is not designed to contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities that are required.
