Would you prefer to get an 18% tip automatically for every check you waited for or earn your tips on each table?
I came across a survey on Instagram about food services tips that should be included in every check or preferred how it is now. 🤔
Some places add to service charges, and additionally, tips are not necessary. 👨🍳💸

tips on table - yes, there are the penny and 50 cent tippers, on the other hand, for holidays and/or just plain great service and checking up on table repeatedly throughout meal (to check if things are ok, need additional silverware/condiments, refill drinks, ask if need takeout containers and/or upsell dessert before bringing the final bill) -- I, myself am one to throw the usual 20% plus $50-100 holiday bonus tips toward all around superb service (maybe slightly less if really ignored and forgotten or service was plain garbage, but still better than usual on holidays) -- i also see the side of having tips added, because people like me are pretty rare and even people on Doordash put down 0 tips... for people using their own personal car to bring your order + pay maintenance and gas + wait sometimes 20-30mins at the restaurant/store (that I've been told a few times) so what, like 45+ mins for nothing? no wonder there are videos on Tiktok of undelivered "non tipping" fast food sitting on the Doordash/Grubhub/Uber Eats rack that no driver has accepted... really though, these cheap ass people exist that don't recognize the costs nor servers hard work and majority of places that have servers nowadays are extremely busy, sometimes employees rarely get a break to breathe, even eat or drink a glass of water (near "once a month" lol) -- i'd say a solid 25-30% though and nothing like 18% that sounds "too McDonaldsy" to compensate good workers properly lmao
I find that the auto tip actually gives the server much less than I would’ve initially tipped. I feel it shorts great servers and rewards bad ones.
It's really hard to say. I guess it depends on what the tips were like in the Restaurant before the automatic gratuity. If the tips were usually 20-25% before, obviously an automatic 18% would be a reduction. Although in the past I have appreciated the way Automatic Gratuity was used for large parties! It seemed to help ease some of the stress of taking care of a large group. Thanks for such a thoughtful question! 🖤
my hubby and I are great tippers why because I have waited table washed dishes and cleaned up afterwards.. the 18% added to the bill is needed for those that do not tip at all.
Here’s the thing: yes to some degree a tip should be considered for service provided. Do you have any idea just how bad some service is? Yet they expect upwards of a 20% tip. Now add that to the fact that with some eateries they’ve decided to make their customers pay for their losses during covid. As if it’s somehow our fault. It’s much more than someone practically throwing a plate of semi warm/inedible food. The experience goes both ways. Customers need to actually act like humans & not apes. Wait staff need to lose the attitude and perform their jobs to the best of their ability.
The entitlement on both sides must end. Now.
We should be discussing how restaurants and bars get away with paying below minimal wage. We should receive a decent hourly rate for the sales we are producing for these companies and the tips are what we earn for our service to our customers. I’m not sure how or why this has been going on for so long.

I believe restaurants that include the tip in bill are doing a disservice. Waitress tend to slack of and ignore clients on purpose with pretext of. " oh, sorry but we are busy". If they can't come back and notice my glass is empty then I only leave $2 out of courtesy.
Yeah...I see the trade-off. For me, if I were the server, I would just want the tip added. I read an article where the restaurants have just increased their per hour for the servers so bad tips won't break your bank.
Someone I know works the bar at a restaurant and told me a long time ago that when a patron leaves a tip on their restaurant order, that it's mandatory for the server to split the tip with the bar. I don't know if there's any truth to that tho.
