I need a job (remote) urgently. I have applied for several jobs online but I'm unable to get one. Whenever I apply for a job the recruiter keeps telling me they can't offer me the job because I am Nigerian. Please help me.

From a recruiter and HR specialist- If you are applying to positions here in the U.S what they are telling you is NOT legal. Depending on the state they may be crossing legalities to even ASK where you are from! If you have proof of someone denying you based on demographics of where you are from I highly recommend getting a lawyer.

The only way this would be legal is if A- you are not legally registered to work in the U.S.

Or B- some companies have strict policies regarding English, ( It seems you are fine in this area)

Or C- you require sponsorship to gain citizenship here in the U.S. Companies do actually reserve the right to tell you no if a candidate needs sponsorship.

If none of those apply to your specific situation then you ma'am, need legal help!

If you have your passport and visa and it states that you can work here then those companies can get in trouble for discrimination based on race.

Manager

so make sure you keep track of the jobs you have applied for and also look them up for phone numbers and within a couple days of applying contact them saying your checking on your application.

Unemployed, looking for a new opportunity to be of service to to the work enviro

If you have legal documentation to be in this country (Passport/Visa) and a work Visa, then you shouldn't have any problem to find work. If nobody wants to hire you because you weren't born here, that's discrimination. That's a whole other story. Now you can go to the employment office and state your case. But you can't claim nothing if you are in country, illegally. If that's the case, there's nothing you can do about it. I hope everything works out for you, Rita.
