I was a Service Manager for an independent garage for almost 3 years. I was asked to take a temporary lay off in January due to the owners lack of funds. I was available whenever he needed me and went back to full time in a few weeks. I never called off, showed up to work on time and treated the business as if it were my own. I was fired via text message on a Sunday night. I supposedly broke company policy. Nothing was ever discussed with me. I feel like it was bc he couldn't afford to keep me on. The owner has a history of doing this. I should have left years ago!

If they fire you, you can't collect unemployment depending on what state you live and he would not have to pay. If he lay you off you can collect unemployment. Firing by text on a Sunday night is way unprofessional on all levels!

It is your right to talk to him to ask specifically why you were terminated. Depending upon the circumstances, there are ways of handling issues via the court system.
