How do you start all over at 53 yrs of age after doing the same career all your life? I feel like driving a golf cart picking golf balls for minimum wage is the job for me.

Hello Daniel, reinventing yourself can be a challenge; however, not impossible. For example, if you like technology, check out some of the online training platforms like Udemy.com, Alison Courses, mycomputercareer.com, etc. Technology has become one of the quickest routes to a new career that is in high-demand and pays well. I reinvented myself at the age of 50 and got my current position. It was still in human resources, but when I told them that I had learned WordPress on my own and started my own blog, the IT Director sat up straight and told me that I was talking his language. I did not realize at the time that they were in the midst of a system transition and my position would be responsible for certain aspects like gather information and managing the project team. So, by showing them that I was familiar with technology, I earned brownie points. Since then, I've gotten a promotion and thoroughly enjoy my job. Be encouraged...you got this.

54 and feeling all of your pain. I was just laid off yesterday. The last few years have been a bit of a rollercoaster. I was in current role for exactly 1 year. And then previous company, I was on the job for exactly 6 months. 2019, the Monday after the beautiful Christmas party, 100 hundred employees received pink slips. Talk about a bad year with COVID and now another lay off. Sadly, the unemployment extra $600 has expired. How do you live on unemployment wages while you are looking for employment?

I know how you feel. I was working 2 part time jobs at cultural institutions before covid hit and now I'm on unpaid leave from one for who knows how long and laid off from the other. My unemployment just ended and I am trying to figure out how to restart my career at 58. They are only allowing the museums to have 25% occupancy so its unlikely that they will need people at any time soon. I also have asthma so I have to be very careful about interacting with people. It's a really different life for us all than it was last year thats certain.

Hi there. I am 49 and started over. First of all you have a lot of life in you. I did house sitting/ pet sitting. I am rooting for you. You probably have talents that your not putting enough value on. Charge for your services that you can offer. I like being a small fish in a small pond - living in a remote area where tourists go (the mountains). They pay well for rides to and from the airport, pet sitting house sitting House keeping and office cleaning pays well when you work for yourself. I had business cards made a vista print and got online and (Facebook community group page ) and just started posting about my business and people started Calling. Then referrals come in. You can do it
