I think gaps in a work record can be used to your advantage. Own the gap, explain what you were doing, because by being able to explain it, you have a better chance of talking and showing the interviewer who you are. The break has given you something to talk about. Personality, positivity, these things are also important and those skills will be on display when you explain why you had a break. Its nothing to be ashamed of, try to think of it in positive terms that show the hiring managers how its helped you be the person they want for the job.
