My boss is pressuring me and I'm conflicted as hell.

So here's the problem. I work as a bartender and have for years. I've been at my current job for 4 years and my boss REALLY wants me to be a manager. I appreciate that he has faith in me and my ability to be a good leader, but I don't know that I want to be a manager.

I know it'll be good for my career development but I really enjoy being a bartender. But he's been asking me every single shift....

Advice? Thoughts?

Stay as a bartender unless as a manager you can still keep bartending and keep all your tips too unless he will give una salary that will compensate for your tax free tips

In the retail business that I had been in for 40 years one of the biggest mistakes that the retailers made was making their top salesman managers! It's a different skill set! Good salesman don't want to lead other people necessarily! A good salesman does not necessarily make a good manager a good bartender doesn't necessarily make a good manager! Do what you want do what you're good at

Hey being a manager is easy just think like a manager and treat your employees with respect. Go to the bookstore and there are a lot of books on how to be a great leader. It works I threw myself for manager position when I was 25 and the only thing that you have to control is dealing with slackers. But the perks are great!!do it

All you can do is try it and if you don't like it tell him that you don't like it and you want to go back to where you were I had a friend that done that

Congratulations on being offered a managers position. This shows how trust worthy and the boss clearly sees your potential you have to offer not only for yourself but others as well. I think it is great that your boss has offered you this position. He sees your talents and you are an asset to the company. It is a great opportunity for you to grow in the company and also would look great on a resume. Would suggest you to give it a try and you might actually like it nothing says you can't still bar tend at times.

Look if you want to be a manager then be one but if you want to stay being a bartender, then do what makes you happy , don't do what makes me happy or anybody else happy but what makes you happy !!

Do what you enjoy. The money isn't worth sacrificing what you love. Many people have lots of money or a "strong career" and hate their lives because they hate their jobs. If you're doing what you love, keep doing it.

What are your goals, say in 5 years, 15, 20 yrs? Probably not thinking about retirement, but you need to prepare. I took jobs I hated just to get experience for the next job...stressful yes, but worth it in the end.

I recommend using your special moment that is. One .. Hands down the I like the money and the power thar. BTB Behind the Bar comes with but unless this was a OMG cuts or upgrades. Ask for a little security. M.O. D when absolutely necessary without giving up your top $ making sifts only 3. No one whos worth it should have to sacrifice what they have fought for in a best pick case. If your the one then it should work out just fine. Because you are now management. Witch is the first schedule made. Relax it will be awesome.
