If you already work there I would say learn as much as you can about different departments. That way you can help a customer when you walk them to another department and can’t find anyone to help them. If there is someone in the department stay and listen to what they have to say.

Pretty much what Jolene said, learn as much as you can. Know your limits in a particular department. For instance in customers will bring tools to the Tools department for repairs. There's a troubleshooting guide in the back of every tools tech manual and most tool brands websites you can walk them through. However, replacing parts has to be done at a brand service center, if your store doesn't have a brand service center, you can't replace parts and do some more complex diagnostics. So if you work in Tools, know the locations of the service centers for the brands you sell or how to find them. Just one example.
