Hi Bronna Bodenstein - I can't speak for the driving part but my experience as a Lyft passenger has been pretty great. I always gave 5 stars unless there was an actual problem, and made sure to tip for above and beyond (water, mints, phone chargers, etc).
I have heard some horror stories though. I'm interested to seeing some responses here!

I have been driving for Lyft for a couple of weeks now as it’s taking longer than expected to find a job and I need an income. To soon to tell if pay is enough to cover wear and tear on my car, but I usually get around $15 an hour including time I’m online, but not actually getting rides. So far, I haven’t had any problems with passengers. Occasionally, they may leave small pieces of garbage in my car, but I wouldn’t call it trashed or anything like that. When you accept a ride you can see the pickup address before you decide to accept, but, unfortunately, you can’t see the drop off address until they get into your car. So, yes, you could wind up in a bad neighborhood. But you can always go offline after the drop off until you’re in a safer neighborhood. My husband and I have decided that I just won’t work after dark so that when I’m in those neighborhoods I’m less likely to have problems. As for tips, I get a lot of 5 star ratings, but not a lot of tips, but Lyft pays enough that I don’t feel like I’m not making enough money. I like the flexibility of Lyft, but miss having benefits like paid time off, disability, etc. I’m still deciding if I want to make this my permanent job or not, but it’s definitely helping me pay the bills until I can find a more traditional job.

I've been driving for Lyft since 2016, on and off. It is a great way to make extra money quick!
I am a Lyft rider. You are asking about the passenger, neighborhood, etc. Well as a passenger, I have experienced many things. I have had drivers who's car recked of marijuana, some with trash in floor, one ran a red light and we were almost T-boned (I would have been hurt badly), ran stop signs, driving very fast, always looking down at their phone for directions and simply not paying attention. For me, once I get into anyone's vehicle, I don't know this person but I have to trust I will be safe. I have had several driver's ask me why I live where I do (which is not in a bad area) just an extended stay place. I had one driver complain about how much he was making off my ride and proceeded to show me. So as a passenger of Lyft, if my service is uncomfortable for me, I will report it and do not expect a tip from me. So in reality, it goes both ways. You expect the same from your passenger as well as we would expect from our driver.
