My wife and I just had a baby 3 weeks ago, but due to complications in the pregnancy and delivery. The doctor have requested for her to take it slow and rest as much as possible. Now, thankfully my job have been flexible and understanding that I can work from home and come in the office three times a week for a certain of amount of hours. But right now! I need to focus on my family. There is nothing in the policy that talks about a maternity leave for a father. How should I go about asking my manager about this? Am I putting my job at risk?

Congrats ! On your new edition to the family. I hope your wife is doing well and taking it easy. I too would check with your HR Dept regarding necessary time off so that you can help out with the baby & whatever your wife needs didn't know maternity leave is only for the wife. Hope all goes WELL for you & your family. God Bless You All :)

God bless ypur family and the new member you are a good leader as I can see good look ... I am looking for job

I will keep all of you in my thoughts and heart. I hope your wife and baby get better and stronger every day. Congrats on the new baby!!

The Family leave act provides for Unpaid keave if you meet certain qualifyications. Unfortunately the US labor laws iare not very family friendly so if your company has not adopted a paternity leave policy keep in mind they basically are doing you a favor and may not want to set a precedent. Personally, what I have seen as an attorney if a company is " progressive" they adopt a policy so your instinct regarding whether to ask for even more flexibility is pushing it is, in my opinion, justified. I would map out a plan outlining exactly what you want ( paid paternity leave?) for how long ? think about how this affects your employer and address this. - who will do your work? Given that they have already given you flex time I'd be conservative in your request and flexible in return.

Maybe post an ad on craigslist for someone to come in and help withe chores and extras so youbcan work. Set up a space in your office for wife and baby so you can multitask...?

Congratulations on the new addition to the family. Paternity leave is not an uncommon request today. Most progressive companies offer it as a standard paid time off benefit or incentive. You may also qualify under FMLA. Ask your HR representative for info and find out if they can give you unpaid time off.
Congrats, Anthony, to you and yours. Google "Family Medical Leave"... all your questions can be answered on this site.
