Unfortunately, many managers who work in -"human resources" have very little humanity in them. Rather than understanding and empathizing with the candidate, rather than treating others as they would want to be treated, they do everything "by the book" by enforcing company rules. This reflects the attitude of upper management. If upper management truly believed that "people are our most important resource", they would staff human resources with caring, empathetic personnel rather than uncaring, robotic legalistic rules enforcers. You were fortunate you found this out before you joined that inhuman company.
