I just wanted to share my horror story. I excepted a position at a very well-known company and was to be relocating to start this position. I was hired in September. I was to start my new position close to the end of January, so it took some time for me to find a place but I did it was way more in rent but couldn’t find anything cheaper in where it was safe and decent. I moved all my stuff out of my apartment on December 29. I quit my job as a teacher because my license is expiring at the end of the school year so I thought that I could start my new venture and secure my future. the same exact day that I moved to this other city which was December 29th they told me that my start date was delayed until July. . they offered a lump sum that has put me in a bind, because I have no money now after paying a few months rent and some Other bills. I have been applying for a plethora of jobs and have not gotten any luck in this new city. I uproot my whole life and my security, and no one at this company cared. No one would help me, and I have had to suffer through this and still have a couple more months to go in hopes that they actually start me on that start date. They have put me in poverty I’ve had to reach out for assistance and haven’t had to do that before because I was a teacher and had a steady income. I have suffered ….but I don’t ever give up! #delayed #startdate #relocation #InARut #dissapointment #determination #work

I would see about getting your former job back, or at least one in the same district. You have a good attitude, so just take it a a lesson learned and move forward. The advice about getting lawyers and stuff is just pie in the sky. Waste of time and money. If it wasn’t in writing, it didn’t happen….

Never move until you're positive that you have a start date and it's a firm one.

I think unemployment should have a penalty for companies when that happens. And some type of compensation that you get weekly to match the job you were to take. And compensation for moving and cost of living till you start. That sounds fair. Those savages!!

You have nothing to lose by taking up a tutoring or asst teacher job till July. Or complain about in hopes of them helping you and risking a no start date. Keep copies of all your rcpts and expenditures and the offer letter. You may need them, you also may be entitled to unemployment because they technically hired you than breached the agreement making you unemployed.

Yes, see if a lawyer in the area can help, find one for employment issues and Ask their advice. I see bill boards advertising lawyers for people treated badly on the job, this might also apply to you. What choice do you have. Keep looking for employment, but also don’t let them get away with this either. This way if you have council it could help. It doesn’t hurt to seek advice from someone who knows the laws in this type of situation. Good luck.

If the former president can be filled with lies and trick so can every other greedy capitalist. Goodluck.
