If you're shy like me at a social event, prepare some talking points will really help you feel ready and confident when networking a job fair! Here are five topics that can really make you shine and make a strong impression in front of employers:

  1. Industry Trends: Discuss recent developments or trends in the industry. It shows you're knowledgeable and engaged. You can ask questions like, "How is your company using the latest tech (such as AI) and how do you find it?"

  2. Company Specifics: Talk about the company’s recent achievements or news. It'll demonstrate your genuine interest in them. For example, "I saw your company's recent social media post and found it fascinating."

  3. Your Unique Skills: Share specific skills you have that are relevant to the company's needs. It highlights your potential value to them. You can also ask, "What kind of training programs do you value or provide to your employees?"

  4. Future Goals: Mention your career aspirations and how they align with the company’s direction. It can spark conversations about potential roles. Ask about, "What direction or impact does your company focus on the most in this field? That's something I want to invest my skills in the most."

  5. Engaging Stories: Share a brief but compelling story about a past work experience or project. Stories are memorable and can showcase your strengths. You can share about a common workplace struggle you've overcome before, such as, "I really pulled through during a peak in workplace turnover."
