Some of the things I did not enjoy:
- Can be a bit hectic during the holiday seasons
- Minimum wage unless told otherwise
- Fluctuating hours depending on the store and how busy it can be
- Standing for 8 hours
What are some of your cons of working in retail? #advice #jobsearch #retail #wordsofadvice

Depending on the store, fluctuating hours, especially for Part time employees.

Getting things thrown at me by customer and my work doing nothing to protect me

Minimum wage

I would have to say the pay was number 1 con in working retail...but that can be changing. I heard in some locations Target pays upto $22/hr. I read this somewhere but not sure how true that is.

I know this isn't the case for some companies, but I've worked for some where a commission or bonus structure was not offered... to me, these are crucial when it comes to incentifying employees to hit sales targets. Jobs I've worked where commission/bonuses were not offered definitely left me feeling less motivated.

@Fateha Bushra I think folks who work in retail should absolutely be paid more than minimum wage! It's a hard job that requires specialized skills and a lot of labor, and they deserve so much more for the amount they endure! As a #FoodServices worker, I know how much you guys put into your jobs! 💸💓
As I've read a lot on this thread, pay seems to be the number one source of dissatisfaction, and I have to agree. Whether the pay's too low, raises are infrequent, or commissions aren't offered—it's a real hit to moral.
