Strange about face

I had a weird one today. I was told i was the only one being considered for a position. The interview seemed to go very well. The HR manager said he'd be putting together an offer package and sending it over by weeks end. Instead what I get today is an email saying "we've decided to open it up to other applicants. You're qualified, but I dont have any positive feedback for reasons they chose this." The problem comes in where my ex significant other is the president of the company I was just terminated from. I was fired for a very bogus reason..the real reason is our personal relationship ended with animosity on her part. NY is an at will state, so there's nothing i can say. Or is there?

CA is worse being an "at will employment" then any state in the US. It's horrible when it comes to employers being courteous to follow up with their interviews. We just want to know is ..." Are we moving forward?" Don't burn my daylight. You have to work the #'s. Finding an adequate job, especially in CA is a #'s game. Another piece of advise, when your termed from a company that your significant other is the President, that should be a huge sign. I tell my staff to never fish of the employee pier. A high % of the time it's not a healthy relationship.

Well Greg that was a red flag when you mentioned your ex,and being a president from a former company you worked at,and ended badly. Right there, she more than likely had some influence. Now the best thing for you to do is let go and continue applying. The more applications you put in. The better chance of you getting hired. Keep that in mind, and learn from your previous relationship. That is going to teach how dodge any distraction like that in the future. I have a book that is out and a website. Good luck to you. https://www.xlibris.com/Bookstore/BookDetail.aspx?BookId=SKU-001184808 Be a freelancer https://www.offers-ads.com/freelancers.aspx?aid=983658

You can go to the Dept of Labor in your state & file an Unfair Labor Practice complaint. But choose your battles. Your greatest revenge for your bitter ex that fired you is your SUCCESS!

You can actually say something. Don't let that be the reason they win because you did not defend yourself.

Tough position to be in. Most companies won't elaborate when asked about ex-employees. It's usually only factual stuff like "how long?" "Salary" "Start and end date". The problem is, they can legally ask "Would you rehire?" Someone with a grudge would say "No". That ends things for perspective employers. If you could prove that they lied about your termination you may have recourse. Unfortunately, they may be black balling you because of the relationship.

Refute any written or spoken acrimonious comments from her through an attorney. The only comments allowed are employment dates and possibly salary ( even that may be illegal tends to box you in from salary increases.) Seriouly, I would sue her for slander and recover damages for impeding gainful employment. Next time say no to refs from her. Find someone else in that company with clout who has no animosity toward you and cannot be harmed by you. In fact, get refs in writing. Do go through a recovery suit. Me too works for men as well.

They can only answer certain questions or they can be sued. Atwill states suck, however they have to show negligence or its considered wrongful termination and can possibly sue (but maybe able to get unemployment)

Seem like there is a bit of jealousy in the workplace and relationship. Relationships in the workplace can end careers. It is not worth ...
