After being a stay at home single mom I am under qualified. My son is 11 years old and I have not worked for at least 12 years. I don’t know how to work that into my résumé. Any suggestions? I feel that being a stay at home parent is genuinely hard and diverse work, but I do not know how to convey that into my résumé or under job skills. #gettingbacktowork #resume #advice #homemakersareceos #unqualified #interviews #jobsearch #notuptodate #workingmoms

What I’ve come to realize is what makes me less qualified for employment has made me more qualified as a human being and I’ve acquired a lot of skills as a single parent and I think I can work that into my resume.

1st and foremost absolutely do not tag any negative underqualified response to any aspect of your resume or interview. Sell whatever you have to sell. Make being a stay home mom a awesome positive aspect of your life that has helped you develop you into more into a caring, compassionate, empathetic candidate. And throw as positive, i was so fortunate to be able to stay at home with my child in the most important thriving developing and learning years of his life, and that can not be replaced by any $, that is time you bonded with your child, it taught you something about yourself,, and now you feel you have done your part at home with your child and you are eager to get back into the workforce and interact with adults, learn new skill sets, processes and potentially open to furthering my education to later lead to advancement in my career. I focused my much desired time with my baby and now it is time for me to pursue my career prospects and interests and develop into a well rounded employee that can by versatile and flexible to meet whatever skill set that your company needs. Something like that, hey every mom wants to stay home with their baby for a little bit anyway but most of us cant so if you walk into an interview and they say why havent you been in the workforce-when you maybe say something like i and your husband decided that you would financially manage without you working and allow you the special invaluable gift to you and my son of being able to stay home those early stages and bond with to make him a secure, happy, playful baby and build a bond that will never broken. (hey even if this is an exageration they are not going to know) It was a little bit of a financial struggle for this time, but me and my husband set short term savings goals, made financial plans and a strict budget, because we agreed me bonding with our child is ultimately priceless, there is no amount of money that can give you the enjoyment, bonding and completeness as a mom and baby that staying home with him did. I mean go that so much the women on the panel-are going to envy you because they wanted to do and they couldnt and they are respect also for putting a timeframe on staying home and bonding with your son, but then dedicating a certain amount of time to bonding and staying home and now getting back from being a stay at home mom to being a career women and providing financially security and in the future the awareness that your son will have that you bonded with him but you also pursued your personal goals and dreams as a career woman not just his mom-teaching him woman independence and work ethic. now on top of the bonding to benefit your child you so can go with this.. Hey, you got it together blow it out of the water. I mean throw two or three priceless moments that you would have never seen if you had been at work and the baby was at the sitters, first steps, first crawl, first dada--try to use as really cute funny one that is rare --if you have exaggerate it they will not know and yeah it is not totally be honest but really its a bout baby first moment--give yourself that one--it will get a chuckle and they will get a feeling for the warm deep impact that bonding with your son has had on you--use use use girl..resume now is tool you can download it is a minimal cost i think the first 30 days are free and then it's 12.99 month cancel anytime. That template is awesome-get it. It will help develop cover letters and resumes. if you start adding your info-it pops suggestions automatically for you consider using their dialoque-you can use the suggestion sor not-but the way they word kinda negaative setbacks puts a positive spin it--it is worth you cancel anytime and also it has diff print and border templates different typreso resme appearance also you create multiple so if youare wanting a secretary job and a 911 oerator obviously those two totally diff resumes and skillset needed for the job description-so create different resumes-it will save them in the system and suggestion skills and ways to creatively and positively reflect skills. hey ive been applying for hr jobs. i dont hr degree i have 25 yrs experience customer service, but i have alos worked in ligfe insaurance, taxes, billing, health and dental, fmla-so i watch of how to say basically hey i technically dont have that degree or skill but if you select i am going to strive to be excellent typing for and i am going to do this by spending extra hours learning keyboard and setting timeline goals to ensure i can increase my typing speed as well as accuracy which I know are the skillset on this job description-so yeah that an example but what you are saying yeah i admit i don't but i know it is on the job description -so you have let them know you know what they need and this is how you are do it-so im gonna learn it and then adding the other two statements about the keyboard and timeline for increasing speed accuracy-that emphasized the fact that hey she realizes this is job skillset we are needing and she doesnt have prior experience, but obviously she has given some deep thought because she has developed plan on how to get the skill and actually expertise the skill-so that shows the panel a few things, first you are honest and admit you need to learn this process, then they see you realize the steps to be proficient and maybe even in excel in the process plus they are gonna-ok she took the problem, researched how to resolve it or learn and now she is actually developing a plan and setting goals to achieve it-wow girl--really blow them away--hey the guy i listen all the time about interview richard munndon--ace interview many diff job title and some just ace interview questions and examples of awesome responses-google you tube-he is so awesome-0good luck girl. no matter what skillset is listed that you dont have experience-think about it own that you dont know give plan on how you gonna excel at learning and give explanation how you are gonna steps processes so they know that you truly know what they need you to do.. sell yourself--and use your mom tme to spark a tear in the moms on the pnel that wanted to stay too-staying is a job anyway-but it shows that you have priorities in your life and sometimes we as moms have to put our career goals on hold for min-and you are gonna some effective and kick ass by laying it out that way because any panel is gonna she has priorities she goals and she knows how to effectively put them into perspective in line order to be accomplished and when to set a new goal and go forward with that good luck and congrats the baby-one more thing-if you strugggle about how to describe or highlight a skillset especially if you have no experience-google it on chrome resume ideas for secredtrary--hey sometmes the example resumes will remind that you that you actually do have some skills you can put down and the others just kind havew a response that you know the are there and you will be immediately motivated to learn the skills accurately and asquicky as you can.. you can google how to state to the panel that you were a stay at home mom and now back in career force-you will get ideas also, google--awesome or great extra skills in secretary to add that are original to my resume--google google google

Don't start with the mindset of what you lack, but start with a goal or where you'd like to get to instead. Check @Sara Jones' post about where to start with your resume. Identify a couple of jobs that you might be interested first and save those job descriptions. Then you can identify the skills they require to tailor your resume accordingly. She also shared about functional resume format that might help with your 12 years gap issue. Feel free to share any specific questions in the community and we're happy to help!
