After being a stay at home single mom I am under qualified. My son is 11 years old and I have not worked for at least 12 years. I don’t know how to work that into my résumé. Any suggestions? 1st and foremost absolutely do not tag any negative underqualified response to any aspect of your resume or interview. Sell whatever you have to sell. Make being a stay home mom a awesome positive aspect of your life that has helped you develop you into more into a caring, compassionate, empathetic candidate. And throw as positive, i was so fortunate to be able to stay at home with my child in the most important thriving developing and learning years of his life, and that can not be replaced by any $, that is time you bonded with your child, it taught you something about yourself,, and now you feel you have done your part at home with your child and you are eager to get back into the workforce and interact with adults, learn new skill sets, processes and potentially open to furthering my education to later lead to advancement in my career. I focused my much desired time with my baby and now it is time for me to pursue my career prospects and interests and develop into a well rounded employee that can by versatile and flexible to meet whatever skill set that your company needs. Something like that, hey every mom wants to stay home with their baby for a little bit anyway but most of us cant so if you walk into an interview and they say why havent you been in the workforce-when you maybe say something like i and your husband decided that you would financially manage without you working and allow you the special invaluable gift to you and my son of being able to stay home those early stages and bond with to make him a secure, happy, playful baby and build a bond that will never broken. (hey even if this is an exageration they are not going to know) It was a little bit of a financial struggle for this time, but me and my husband set short term savings goals, made financial plans and a strict budget, because we agreed me bonding with our child is ultimately priceless, there is no amount of money that can give you the enjoyment, bonding and completeness as a mom and baby that staying home with him did. I mean go that so much the women on the panel-are going to envy you because they wanted to do and they couldnt and they are respect also for putting a timeframe on staying home and bonding with your son, but then dedicating a certain amount of time to bonding and staying home and now getting back from being a stay at home mom to being a career women and providing financially security and in the future the awareness that your son will have that you bonded with him but you also pursued your personal goals and dreams as a career woman not just his mom-teaching him woman independence and work ethic. now on top of the bonding to benefit your child you so can go with this.. Hey, you got it together blow it out of the water. Don't start with the mindset of what you lack, but start with a goal or where you'd like to get to instead. Check @Sara Jones' post about where to start with your resume. Identify a couple of jobs that you might be interested first and save those job descriptions. Then you can identify the skills they require to tailor your resume accordingly.
