How would you respond if a coworker shared a personal struggle with you? Would you tell them that's not appropriate for the workplace or would you treat them like a friend?
I try to listen the struggle my coworkers then we try to find the solution in a good way.
It depends on what the situation is. If its something that I could assist them with. Then I will assist them. But if I cant, I would point them in the direction where they can get help.

Listen, don’t get involved, nothing, nothing illegal
A little of both—your work family is important. You spend more time with them than your family most likely. Discuss it over lunch or take a 15 minute break. If they choose you to be the one they asked for help, I would hope that you would take the time to listen.

I would always treat any person like a friend cause at the end of the day what we say can always have a affect on that person
