There are more of us out there than you know that are over-qualified and in debt; and most of us - myself included - are over the age of 55 and seeking gainful employment that pays better than minimum wage. While employers cannot legally out-right say 'you're too old,' they get around that by responding with insipid remarks like, 'In spite of your impressive resume and superior qualifications, we've decided to go with another candidate.' What does someone older do? They attempt to find a long-term contract position; but be wary as most of those either don't offer any kind of benefits or the ones that do if for no other reason than your age, prevents you from taking advantage of them as it ends up being less costly in the long run to get medical/dental insurance via your state's Health Exchange. Society doesn't help either since it's been perpetuated that once you reach a certain age you are no longer capable of providing value add in the workplace; and the attitude of Millennials doesn't help.

I went on 48 interviews about half in my previous field of over 20years aerospace & commercial metals. Many told me I was overqualified ur most went silent which seems to now be acceptable. Security guard was the only job offered to me from the 48 interviews over about 18 months. Many weeks I get no work shifts and other times I get 4, 5 or 6 hours in 1 week. It's mind boggling.
This past week I worked 34.25 hours
