I had interview today over phone for about 30 minutes. Seemed to go well. 10 minutes later interviewer called back and asked for my birth date. Is that legal? Notified 2 hours later that position filled 3 days ago. Interviewer not aware position filled. Ageism?

Hi James, that line of questioning is a slippery slope that often leads to Age Discrimination in Employment Act violations. I'm sorry to hear that job opportunity didn't turn go your way but I would question the companies lack of professionalism handling your recruiting process.

What's your next move? Do you have any other job interviews lined up? What type fo job(s) are you looking for?

Sadly that is not illegal to ask, but it IS illegal to discriminate based solely on that information. It sounds like a terrible company to even ask your age. I would continue looking for other opportunities just in case this is a sign of things to come. Let me know if you need some help!
