@Kevin Seals First you would need to study for a Class A. Study guide can be found on the DMV site. Take the general knowledge test which is 50 questions, pass it get your permit. After you get the permit enroll in trucking school. Trucking school cost $3,000 and it’s 27 classes 1 hour each. Once you complete the classes they will schedule you for the drive test. You’ll also need a DOT physical exam at an urgent care before you take your permit test. DMV will ask you for that. Generally cost $100.
Go to your local state employment service. They have classes at no cost in many states.
I see someone mentioned $3,000.00 for a trucking school and does not say where it is located. In California trucking schools are raising their rates in 2023. The lowest cost school I found in California was $5,000.00. I ended up paying $6,495.00 November 2022. 1 week of in classroom learning videos then we got our permit. Then 3 weeks learning the truck and driving. It is very, very fast pace. You have to do a couple of test plus your CDL C. If you have another addition to your license say the M1 for driving a motorcycle you have to take that test also. Making the big bucks you need to have at least 1 year or more experience. Do your research before you dive in.
Or you could also go to companies like swift, CR England, Schneider and western express they will train you and help you get a CDL but ask for a commitment from 6 months to a year then you can go wherever you want
Yes, I can certainly help you with getting your CDL (commercial driver's license).
To get your CDL, you will need to meet certain requirements and follow specific steps, which may vary depending on your state. In general, here are the steps you can take to get your CDL:
Determine the type of CDL you need: There are three classes of CDLs: Class A, Class B, and Class C. Each class corresponds to different types of vehicles and their weight. You will need to determine which class of CDL you need based on the type of vehicle you will be driving.
Meet the eligibility requirements: To be eligible for a CDL, you must be at least 18 years old (21 years old to drive interstate) and have a valid driver's license. You will also need to pass a physical examination to ensure that you are physically fit to drive a commercial vehicle.
Complete the required training: You will need to complete a CDL training program, which typically includes both classroom instruction and hands-on driving experience. You can find CDL training programs at community colleges, truck driving schools, and other institutions.
Pass the CDL tests: To get your CDL, you will need to pass a written test and a driving test. The written test covers the rules and regulations for operating a commercial vehicle, and the driving test assesses your skills in operating a commercial vehicle.
Apply for your CDL: Once you have completed the necessary training and passed the tests, you can apply for your CDL at your state's licensing agency. You will need to provide proof of your training and test scores, as well as pay the required fees.
I hope this information helps. Good luck with your CDL journey!
@Alexander Montoya that is incorrect. I am also a CDL driver and I got my CDL 2 seperate times. It isn't $3000 for trucking school if you have a permit it's alot less between 1200-1800 if you go with a permit.
One option is your local workforce. WIOA is the program. They will fully pay for the program. Another option is if you dont mind signing a contract you can try with a bigger company and go OTR. They will pay and train. You just have to sacrifice being gone from the home for weeks at a time. Do your research because not all companies are good companies. If I had to go OTR I would choose either JB Hunt or Snyder.
