I’m only five years into my career and I’ve finally found ways to identify narcissists at work. I’ve run into several self-centered bosses and coworkers between the two jobs I’ve done so far. A narcissist will make everything about him or herself. They will never admit or learn from their mistakes. They are extremely insecure and jealous about your successes and constantly try to put you down.

I used to think it’s just the org culture or the type of job I chose. But even after switching jobs, I still see similar type of people that I can’t really avoid working with. I’m trying my best to build the confidence and maturity to learn how to deal with them instead of running away from them. Any advice is welcome and wish me luck.

You don’t deal with narcissists. You make sure you can get your work done and cover your butt. Don’t worry about coworkers - Do what you have to do to be the best at your job and keep it moving!

vanessa , just keep doing your job and stand your ground, because they won't change. don't jump jobs cause of them, soon enough they will leave you alone.

Narcissist will gang up with everyone to attack you! They gaslighting you all the time. I was terminated because of a narcissist boss!

OMGOODNESS: I live with one and it's so hard however, I learned as much as possible I don't feed into his drama and hate...there really is no easy way but I do pray to get me through.

Do not enable them. Avoid them if possible.

anyway vanessa, avoiding them is not the best option, why do i say so?....in the first place its not luck that give you the job, secondly, its by the Grace of God we do everything, and you believed its God that gives you that job, your calm and patients will have a much effect on them, and taht can change them totally, please stay calm and walk in obedient with them, everything will be fine, and its can be God testing to see your deligent if He can trust of giving your own company to handle.....thanks very much vanessa.

Experts have said that 0.5% of the population are narcissists, I think it's far more than that. Narcissism is just one of 10 personality disorders. I wouldn't necessarily chose avoidance as a method of dealing with people like this. But you do need to research personality disorders and know who you are dealing with. If you try to avoid them and they notice it..they'll eventually begin to target you.

I grew up with a father like that and have worked with such personalities. The best thing to do is to focus your energy on your achievements and your growth as a professional: they will never see your accomplishments as a good thing, they will always see them as a threat due to their insecurities.
