Have you submitted 100 applications and find yourself waiting for calls to interview? Your resume may need a double check. I recently learned of ATS programs to screen for candidates who most likely fit the needs stated in their job description. This may be old news for many but it was news to me for sure. NOTE: "More than 95 percent of Fortune 500 companies use an ATS to streamline the recruiting process and keep up with the thousands of applications received weekly, but plenty of smaller employers have embraced the tool too." The ATS rejects roughly 75% of applications meaning no person ever sees it. There are free websites that will scan your resume and give tips on what you can do to improve the likelihood of it being seen. I noticed a world of difference after changing up a few details on mine. Also, if you include the desired job description on the ATS scan, it will show how well matched your resume is to that particular job. I like topresume.com for free scans. I hope this helps someone else. #jobsearch #application #resume #hiringnews #advice

ATS systems were invented so HR people have more time to crush candies.

Did you use ATS tool? They usually follow up the scan with advise. They want measurable statistics and actionable words. Here's a real life sample taken from a former client's resume. By changing the language, we helped to enhance the perception of the job-seeker.

Passive language / Doing: “Negotiated contracts with vendors” Action language / Achieving: “Slashed payroll/benefits administration costs 30% by negotiating pricing and fees, while ensuring the continuation and enhancements of services.”

I don't understand what the changes needed are. My resume has the usual stuff like goal, previous work, education, degrees, etc.

Right there with you. A few changes and I got 4 interviews lined up in 1 week. 2 of those have already made offers so DEF worth the effort. I'm so glad I found out about this because I would probably still be waiting for a call.

When I got laid off during covid, I updated my resume to beat the ATS and then also used an ATS checker- like jobscan- for free where I put my resume and job description. Once I started doing that for every job, I got call backs on almost every application. worth the extra time to beat the ATS!
