Hello Marlene, I hate to say this, but I feel I must. It's been my experience inside and out of 12-step programs that ANY mood or mind altering drug (prescribed, or not, even if taken as prescribed) disqualifies a person as being clean and sober. I don't understand that mentality, especially, as in my case, my diagnosis requires me to take psychotropic medications that alter my brain chemistry. Those of us who are in the prozac crowd , as I was labeled and shunned for in 12-step meetings, we're told that the meds we take are as important to our life as insulin is to a diabetic. On one hand, the medical community tells us we won't survive without them. When we get stable thru taking those meds, a lot of us are able to put down the street drugs we self-medicated with and look to 12-step meetings for fellowship and to learn how to stay clean and sober. I was never able to pick up a chip at a meeting because when I had enough days for my first chip, I was mad-dogged by the person giving chips out that day, he knew I was taking mind and mood altering meds.
I hope you are able to find a profession that allows you to use your experience and knowledge, compassion, and understanding to help those who seek help.
Your profile photo is beautiful, the kind of beauty that comes from within. I think you'd be a great asset to a substance abuse facility. If not, try a psychiatric hospital or mental health clinic because at least 40% of those diagnosed with a mental illness also self-medicate with street drugs and they need help from someone like you too, if not more so.
Take care, God bless you in your search for a job that will accept you and allow you to help those who need someone like you to be on their side of things.
