Luckily, I now have a job where I don't have to work on Thanksgiving 🦃, but I used to work holidays back in my cashier days. I did get OT though 💵!
Do you think our bosses should be allowed to mandate holiday work if they pay OT? Share your thoughts in the comments!

Government's (at all Levels) and even Companies can Require and Mandate people be Vaccinated. And yes Mandates hold as much Weight as Laws.

Macy's required my son as a dock manager to work from 4pm on Thanksgiving until the job was done up to 24 hrs if necessary HORRIBLE
Should be optional, if you want to work , then work if you don't just state I want the day off. People are at fault as well with this, if people don't go to the stores on Holidays to shop then the stores would not open.
sure if you don't mind
I didn't know they were open on thanksgiving day?
They will Change their Minds about this and Open again on Thanksgiving.
My employer has always been closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas. When my last employer started opening on Thanksgiving, most of my coworkers were not happy at all. Retail workers have families too.
They should give people the choice. You can not change everyone's mind about this, especially those who profit from it. However, you can make a nice working environment by offering holiday work hrs to anyone who wants it. Giving a choice instead of mandating those hrs. Working the holidays should never be mandatory, and if no one chooses to work, then shut down, the business will be fine for a day or two. We put too much priority on money and not enough on family, sad.
Corporate America has gotten way to greedy. It used to be that Sundays were a day of rest and family time. Holidays were sacred. Corporate America has not got any core family values and we need to get back to that.
I think it depends on the situation and the work that you're doing. I do think that it is great that major companies are closing for the holiday and giving their employees time off. I also believe that if they stay open they should offer holiday pay to recognize the sacrifices that their employees could be making to work that holiday. I've worked holidays before in the past and was compensated appropriately for them; would I want to work them now, no.
