Thank you for sharing the story to help inform others about this. I'm sorry these scammers wasted your time but luckily you didn't lose any money or more time dealing with the matter! Sending a check and asking for the recipient to deposit it seems to be very common and definitely an instant red flag. Unfortunately there are scammers out there and sometimes it is hard to differentiate what is a scam and what isn't. I hope this site helps and is resourceful for you regarding scammers: https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0243-job-scams. In the future, you can also avoid scammers by referring to this list: https://www.jobcase.com/conversations/16ac6bc4-eed8-5546-92f4-5c141e386edb

Yes they definitely were foolish to try and trick you and I am glad you knew it was a scam. Unfortunately they are praying on their victims in their most vulnerable moments...when they need a job.
As a rule anyone that asks me to send them money to them or take classes to get hired I know to put them in the scam pile! As a warning to others NO ONE should ever ask you that from a legitimate job opportunity.
I am so sorry that happened to you, but you handled it like a PRO! I would make sure to block their number and it's great that you took the steps to do your detective work and call the company directly.
I wish we lived in a world where everyone had the best intentions, but sadly that's not always the case. All we can do is be a better person and keep our ears and eyes open.
Have a wonderful weekend!
