Office Manager

Hello, Just curious when should I just take something that is still of decent salary but a bit far from what I wanted as a base. I hate not working, its only been 2 months and I have been on interviews, but I have declined moving forward in interviews due to salary. I hate to "settle" for a job just to get a paycheck and have a job, but wondering should I? I am fine economically for a few more months, but I would rather not spend savings to keep looking. I know money isn't everything, but honestly it is important for me to be able to live life without worrying about spending too much. Just wanted I guess just wanted to put my thoughts out there to hear some advice. Thanks!

My opinion is if you need money, you take this job, then keep looking for the one/salary you want. There has never been a better time to look for a job than now, and I am retired, started working in 1968. It's a job seekers market. It's a job, not a marriage. They will drop you like a bad habit if they need to. As an engineer I also had the option of Contract work, pays more but no benefits, or few benefits. Like I had 4 paid holidays that was it. If you go that route, even though the contract company who pays your salary will be your friend, they aren't. Always be professional.

Good question. There is a succinct difference between a job and a career. A job is something you occupy and work as hard as if it’s a career. When your career becomes available you pursue it...and get it. A good parallel is that for every woman or man you see driving an expensive car, believe me, they had an old vehicle first. So yes, go for the “job” save your savings and get after the career!

If your set don’t worry about a smaller salary. But I have been out of work too long . A couple of months has put me behind. It’s not fun explaining to creditors that your waiting on an offer from multiple companies. I would definitely negotiate a definitive salary good luck to you

You do not want to wait till you are desperate and the next offer is not as good as the one you now have. After I retired from my job and did consultant work in that field I am having d for couple of years. When I was ready to go back to the field I worked for 35 years, I am having trouble getting a job because I have been off the bench more than 6 months. Think about what is best for you and it is easier to get a job if you have a job

If your able to hold out until you get the offer you want I would suggest you do so but don't wait until your savings are depleted. You may have to take something in the interim that will buy you some time until the perfect opportunity for you comes along....

I am going through the same thing and I don’t know what to do either. The further away for less pay stinks. The travel alone would suck up more money. Yet if it is what you can get to by more time you might want to think about it.

I just took a job to get away from my old job, and I hated it! Now I dont know if I can go back to my old job. I feel like you, but I dont think you'll be happy settling for a lousy job. I won't ever again unless I'm desperate.

I always say something is better then nothing and you have to remember life does not stop. I had a phone interview today and suggested a specific amount that was in the middle or at least I think don’t be displaced you can still look for a better opportunity stay encouraged and you know what’s right for you
