When I managed a small team at my last job, I noticed one of my favorite employees was working on their resume while ON the clock. I spoke with my colleague and told her it was inappropriate to look for a new job while working. At the same time, I wondered why she wanted to leave, and what I could do to improve her job experience.

This week I saw a different type of story online. An employee had updated her resume via LinkedIn while OFF the clock. The next day, the manager asked her why she was looking for a new job. This manager had been spying on the employee.

COMMENT BELOW: Is it Ok for managers to track how their employees #jobsearch? #nextjob #etiquette

The fact is if employees are using the company's computers for personal use, they have the right to see what you are doing. If you are using company time to do your personal stuff, you are in trouble. It is grounds for termination. Some companies might be lenient if you are using your free time while using their equipment, but it's their call. HR should have given you all the company's rules, regulations, and protocols. Read them, so you don't get in trouble. You are there to solve their problems not to create one.

And a lot of people want to be noticed so they downgrade one of their team members to pick on so they look all gunho.

Honestly, social media is open and fair game. The update being toxins could have been an easy coincidental find or they could have been notified by LinkedIn when some one in a related field was looking.

So if your profile matches that of what they are looking for LinkedIn would tell them you were available as away to put them in touch

You should be able to approach them and ask why. On the flip it’s unprofessional for them to do while on clock.

Managers should have enough to do and should not have the time to " spy" on their employees!

I don't care... But if it's their equipment you're using, it's the employer's right. Most companies don't want you using their computer for anything but work. Check your employee manual.
