When I grew up, I was told that it was a virtue to set the bar high and be an overachiever. But after I actually started my career, I realized how unhealthy it was to be too harsh to myself. I love these tips shared through NPR to break the cycle of being mean to yourself. Particularly on “talk to yourself the way you would talk to a friend”.
Have you been harsh to yourself? How do you “lower your standard”? Let’s practice self love in the new year!
I suppose to have self hatred. I'm lack.
I am going through this right now. My gf has to bring me down. I left a job i worked at for 22 years moved to a new state, new job, less money. She keeps me level headed. Our generation is too hard on ourselves.
I can relate to this. I think I had an A type personality when I was in school as a child. Some people say I tried to be a perfectionist.
Good idea set an example that kindness matters.
Boy,I have a long journey to reach that goal! I know it's there but far away. I may sound harsh but it is laced with humor. My father was a profectionist and I am the same. I never have a negative thing to say to people who try. I will always try better but am very happy with who I am.Ford
