I am getting a lot of call backs from agencies selling Life and health insurance. They are requesting $500 paid to them to get me certified. What kind of BS is this? Is that how those agencies work?

Hi Bridgett Irving: In my experience, the best thing to do is to decide what you like to do and what you are good at and look for a job in that area. Your job is your second home so you want to do something you like AND if you do something you like over and over, you will become very good at it. There's a saying "do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life." I am very good at writing and started my own company (an LLC) in 2009. I love writing so to me it doesn't seem like work. I do all kinds of writing but my main 'bread and butter' has been resumes and cover letters. Sometimes a person is really down on their luck and can't afford to pay very much (although I only charge $75 for the resume and cover letter combined). I went through a very bad time, a five-year period, where I worked one temp job after another and many times went for months without any work. I understand how that is so sometimes, for some people, I do not charge. I love helping people and writing so it is not a job to me. So think about it. Are you a good cook? Do you like to bake? Do you love working with your flower beds in the spring and summer? Do you like to sew or do needlepoint? Write down the things you like to do anyway and then see if you can find a job in that area.
