I have been a custom woodworker for 31 years. Anything from custom interior trim to mantels, wainscoting, yet specialize in cabinetry and refurbishing of antique cabinets and wood trim. I currently work as shop foreman for a custom cabinet shop, but the pay scale is not a top pay and was informed it is a high as the company is willing to pay. I'm getting so frustrated for being used for my experience to fund the bosses deer leases and new trucks and poker games and not being paid accordingly. I have to work odd jobs just to help provide for my family. Spend so much time working and have very little time for my wife and 10 year old daughter. To me, there is a problem when my 10 year old calls me a workaholic. Any suggestions on how to successfully start my own business or find a better job in the cabinetry business that appreciates experience and hard work?

Hi Billy - Could you try offering your work somewhere like thumbtack.com? Could be a good place to start finding clients who need that sort of thing and then be able to build a business from that.
Get on the deer lease and camp with them, to see if you really want to stay with them.
