When summer arrives, patio season begins, attracting many patrons who enjoy sitting outside. This can lead to faster table turnover, resulting in more tips.
While working outside in hot weather can be challenging, summer is a peak time for earning money, especially for restaurants with patios. The biggest advantage is the increased table rotation as people love to sit outside in nice weather.
The main disadvantage is working under the sun and in the heat. Restaurant workers spend 6-8 hours on their feet, engaging in a lot of physical activity, which can be strenuous in hot weather.
On the plus side, you benefit from a comfortable, climate-controlled environment, protected from the sun and heat, which can reduce the physical strain of long shifts. However, there are also downsides. With many patrons preferring to sit outside, you might experience fewer table turnovers, resulting in lower tips compared to patio service.
