I need advice

What do you do when a company blackballs you? I haven’t worked in 6 months because they are stopping me when they get a call for reference.

Don’t use them as a reference or use them but a friends number

I would get a co-worker who knew your true quality of work to attest for you instead of using the person who is giving you the bad review.

Also, during your employment with the company, did you receive any favorable written performance evaluations? Show these to your new prospective employer.

Yes I would like to know the same thing because I have had the same thing happen to me. So what do you do? It's very up setting when you worked at the place 5 years. Please give me some advice.

This was advice given to me by my brother who wanted to know what his supervisor who didnt like him would say to a prospective employer. He had a friend call and advise he was checking references to see what would be said before using them as a reference.

I say just keep trying to find employment. I'm still not employed as a nurse practitioner but I have other options as a RN until I find another NP position.

After reading what everyone has stated here. I think what they were saying was when the potential employer contacts the previous employer (not the references) many will state no to most questions except for dates of employment. Some HR people call it the silent blackball. (From my understanding - I am not an HR person)

Do you have hard evidence of this? If so, that is a crime because they are a. Inhibiting gainful employment and b. Possibly slandering your personal character.
