You have to be full of energy, you will almost always be moving. You must be willing to clean up after dogs, and act as if they are your own dogs for the time they are there, looking out for their every need. You must prepared to come into contact with some dogs that will test your patience, and even be ready to intervene in the occasional dog fight. You must provide a safe, playful environment for every dog no matter what.

If you love animals and dogs in particular and want what's best for the dog, and would love to see the dogs get adopted, then you would love this job. You would have to have a cold or stone heart to not want to help these dogs.

I wish I could help take care of dogs but I'm a junior and I'm 16 and I bet I won't be able to apply for a job like... see more

I about nine months ago I lost my Jack Russell who was dropped off at my front door the day after Christmas by a gentleman who asked me to watch it for two days until he could find somebody to take care of it. One of the best things I learned while working for Mr. Warren was taught to me by his bird, Cookie. I have always been a little cautious when it came to birds. At first she could sense my fear and went and got one of her toys, brought it to me and dropped it in my lap. She would sleep on my chest at night while his adorable dog, Kayka would snuggled up in bed beside us.
