Jobless

I have been struggling with work over last two years. I am a painter by trade and have discovered some clients will look for the most ridiculous reasons not to pay. Its hurt my family when it has happened. Last two jobs they asked for refunds for things that had absolutely nothing to do with the painting I was hired to do.

In my opinion, when you ask someone to do something for you, especially something so physically demanding, you pay full price no questions asked unless the job was done really horrible. I'm sorry that has happened to you often recently! I don't understand how someone could be so rude! Better luck George Seigler

What to do when you feel that maybe you are not in the right path but do not know which one could be?

I've been looking for a job for a while.. have been freelancing on and off for several years. Had some interviews.. got a couple of contract work out of this search... but nothing permanent. Do you think I should continue? I feel life goes by and I am in the same exact place.

Hi Gabriela, I understand your struggle in the job search! Make sure you are listing these freelance/contract jobs on your resume so employers see that you are working even while looking for more permanent work. I wish you all the best!

Unemployed once again...

So after finally obtaining a textile design job in October, I was wrongfully terminated on Nov 5th. HR’s reason: I asked too many questions and that I wasn’t the right “cultural fit.”

So, without any income whatsoever and no unemployment compensation, as they forced me to resign, I am left without any income to survive on and the holidays are right around the corner.

2018 has been my worst year ever as I’ve been unemployed for 6 months, only to finally be employed and then unemployed again...

In addition, I have clinical depression with recurrent thoughts of suicide so this whole situation is making me feel a whole lot worse. I've been in bed most of the time, I hardly have the energy to do anything. Some days I may have enough to look for work, but the moment i get rejection letters, the heavy wave of fatigue comes in and i'm back in bed unable to get up.

I am a graphic designer with over 10 years experience in the field, in addition, I have illustration and e-commerce skills as I run my own blog called cosmic funnies. I started this a side hustle but the income isn't steady.

I have student loans to pay which i can't even afford at the moment and my mom can only do so much as I await the savings from my retirement to come in the mail which will take 6-8 weeks to process. Until then, i am left with very little money from now to mid January so I hope someone will hire me even if it's a retail job..

If anyone is looking to hire a freelancer, please send them my way. Here is a link to my portfolio: https://jackiemoliner.myportfolio.com/

Thank you..

Here's an update that I want to share with those that I have suggested contacting this company. I received an email today, and what makes it so easy is that I don't even have to leave my home. Everything is done via phone or computer. This is a work at home position, and it's for anyone that is interested and dedicated to working at home. Part-time and Full time positions are open. The name of the company is SYKES.

Fellow Freelancers! (Graphic Design)

Hello, I am a Freelance Graphic Designer brand new to the Las Vegas Area. I am currently working as an Independent Contractor for a design agency in Summerlin and things have slowed down a bit. I started working for them 5 weeks ago part time 5 days a week and now they barely have enough work for 2 days a week. I know as a contractor things fluctuate work wise and a lot of smaller agencies hire contractors to simply "Catch Up". My question is outside of Freelancer, where do you find the most success picking up side jobs? I have been interviewing for several salary and full time positions but in the meantime I would like to stay busy and supplement my income. Sorry for the lengthy post! I appreciate and suggestions or insight in advance. Best Regards!

You could try advertising on local boards for your area - and maybe having yourself listed on thumbtack.com might help. I think you have to pay a fee for that, but you'd be able to write it off with your taxes as a work expense.

Seeking Freelance Writing

I recently found myself unemployed from project management. I am seeking full-time employment, but meanwhile, also open to freelance writing and/or illustration jobs and obtaining or earning project management certifications to hopefully make myself more marketable and pay bills. For instance, I recently wrote and illustrated my own kids book (Here and There book): http://www.higginspublishing.com/store/products/category/69/childrens-books. Does anyone know of paid opportunities that I can draw from?

HI Beverly: This is so cool! I used to be a freelance writer, and I would get a lot of my projects off of sites like Guru.com and Upwork.com. Clients post their projects on these sites and you place bids to win the project. I did it for eight years and really liked it, so I encourage you to check it out. There are probably illustration jobs on there too. Check those sites out and let me know what you think!
