Newly upgraded unemployment benefits site

https://cbs6albany.com/news/coronavirus/newly-upgraded-unemployment-benefits-application-system-takes-effect-in-new-york-state

“Like many across the Empire State, the majority of our staff are working from home, and New Yorkers may see an incoming caller ID that lists PRIVATE CALLER," Reardon said. "I want to encourage New Yorkers to answer these calls so we can complete your application and connect you with the benefits you deserve."

Are you eligible to apply for Unemployment in New Hampshire?

The Federal CARES Act was enacted Friday, March 27th. This includes an additional $600 per week for all individuals filing in New Hampshire until July 31st. It also provides an additional 13 weeks of eligibility on top of the existing 26 weeks.

Navigating Unemployment Benefits

Unemployment experts help debunk myths and clear up confusion in an article from Refinery29: Who’s Eligible For Unemployment? Unemployment insurance is just based on what you did in the prior week, and why. So in the prior week, if you didn't work, and that was because of something out of your control, you're eligible for unemployment benefits

You Could Be Misclassified Usually, if you’re classified as an independent contractor — a self-employed graphic designer, for example — you’re not eligible for unemployment benefits. But some people have an employer and yet are still classified as independent contractors. Depending on the state, the law can override this and say that you’ve been misclassified.

Partial Unemployment Or Reduced Hours If you’re not officially laid off yet but suspect you will be in the coming days or weeks, can you start the process now? Unfortunately, no. “You have to wait until it's clear that you don't have a job

How Much Unemployment Can You Receive? To the surprise of absolutely no one, the amount you can receive weekly varies greatly by state

How Long Can You Receive Unemployment? Most states pay 26 weeks of unemployment benefits.

Remember that unemployment qualifications differ by state so check your local government sites for more information

In order for me to pay my monthly bills I have to work two jobs. I am in the State of Utah. I work my full time job mainly so I have medical and life insurance benefits. I waitress one to two days a week and bring home more money than my full time job. Unfortunately due to the Corona Virus I can’t work my waitressing job. Am I eligible for unemployment insurance for that job?

Which companies really stand out and help their employees during a pandemic?

My pick today? Wegmans!

Wegmans is a grocery chain originating from my home town in upstate New York. This past Sunday I went to Wegmans to stock up on essentials. As I walked through the store, I noticed small changes such as hand sanitizer stations always in reach and a check out experience that ensured social distancing throughout the end to end checkout process. These may sound minor, but they may have been the one thing that prevents my family from getting sick.

More Interesting --> it was SO clear they were equally protecting their workers, just as much as their customers. Check out some of these benefits they are currently offering to help their employees:

  1. Voluntary leave will not result in you losing your job.
  2. Increased pay for the employees who decide to come in and work in the face of a global pandemic.
  3. Quickly updated their disability pay policies so employees don't need to worry if they get #coronavirus

This info was found from Wegman's website: https://www.wegmans.com/news-media/press-releases/wegmans-response-to-covid-19-2/

I hope to see more of these large employers step up and begin offering similar benefits to their workers, regardless of the impact to business.
