Small company culture and working for a family owned business:

When working for a small company (fewer than 10 employees) and family owned, make sure to keep yourself current in technology if you are in the arts field. Most small companies don't have the financial resources to keep up with the latest software developments or technological developments in the ever changing digital environment. This will hinder you in the future. Use this experience as a stepping stone. Do not stay there more than 3 years…

This is absolutely excellent advice Linda Lesner - thank you for sharing. Do you know this from experience, or was it advice…

Two truckers share their stories

Meet Nailah and Martin!

Two different people who truly love what they do, which is driving a truck.

Sometimes in life, you need to think outside of the box.

When a friend suggested that Nailah attend truck driving school she stood in front of her in high heels and a dress and thought NO way was this for her. Today she happily says, “I am in a place where I don’t have to want for anything. I am happy. I don’t have bill collectors calling me…

Yes..this is true...but you can not share your good things to haters! It can be a family member...

Not a fan

A lot of places are trying out self driving trucks saying it will make trucking freight safer and cheaper. Anybody who has driven a truck knows that it’s NOT that easy. What happens if a steer tire blows out?! Or if the weather is crap? Computers can’t fix everything. I honestly never liked the idea of self-driving anything. I feel like I am in the Twilight Zone. Anyone else?

Is not gonna last, sooner or later is gonna be a crap

For starters, I have always been told that I am a good worker and that I do get the job done And, that is true. That is not something I would lie about. But, for some damn reason I can't explain , not all employers are looking for an honest and trustworthy person to join the ranks. At least, that's what I'm told. I find that very hard to…

Senior Estimator

I was locked out of my computer by my employer because I asked for time off without pay. Before I accepted the position I informed my employer that I had booked commitments. He is trying to disapprove my unemployment benefits so I reported him to the DOL.

Reporting to the DOL should be the last resort. Are there no internal departments or expertise that could handle it? Now that it…
