Forbes Remote Company Location Jersey City, New

Assistant Editor, Business Company NameForbes Remote Company Location Jersey City, New Jersey, United States

New Posted DatePosted 10 hours ago Number of views 497 views

Forbes believes in the power of entrepreneurial capitalism and uses it on various platforms to ignite the conversations that drive systemic change in business, culture and society. We celebrate success and are committed to using our megaphone to drive diversity, equity and inclusion. We are the world’s biggest business media brand, and we consistently place in the top 20 of the most popular sites in the United States, in good company with brands like Netflix, Apple and Google. In short, we have a big platform, and we use it responsibly.

Forbes Media seeks an Assistant Editor to support the Forbes Business team, with a particular emphasis on the food, real estate and retail beats, in our Jersey City, NJ, office. This is a junior position appropriate for candidates with a background or interest in business journalism and a demonstrable foundation in reporting, writing and multimedia journalism. Assistant Editors are the linchpin of the Forbes newsroom. This candidate will be assigned to food, real estate and retail content, working at the intersection of editorial (editors, staff writers and outside contributors) and internal teams including social, product and analytics. An understanding of financial reporting is a strong plus, as is an interest in — and aptitude for — digital journalism and project management. This is a role that covers many elements of the food, real estate and retail worlds but is centrally focused on the business of those industries, not on lifestyle journalism.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Work on the front lines of editorial coverage. Read and edit (as appropriate) the content stream on the channel and overall site, and monitor any issues with the CMS. Assist editors in finding, recruiting and setting up new contributors. Train and support contributors on how to use and optimize Forbes’ publishing tools. Stay on the cutting edge of the food, real estate and retail space, monitoring breaking news and must-read sites, social streams, trade press and more. Collaborate with editors to find original angles to news and enterprise stories; follow up with reporting and writing your own stories or pitching stories to contributors. Ideal candidate is expected to pitch and write regular stories for the site and/or magazine. Participate in larger Forbes projects, including 30 Under 30 and the Best Places for Business, as a reporter and writer. Member of fact-checking pool for the magazine. Work with audience development and other internal teams to monitor and optimize traffic. Create original content for Forbes platforms outside the site, including social media, podcasts and newsletters, as well as live events.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree plus 6 months to 1 year of relevant work or internship experience in digital journalism or related field. Editing experience at college publication is a big plus, as is a strong portfolio of writing. Top candidates have experience working at a journalistic publication and/or a demonstrated interest in writing on food, real estate or retail. Hands-on experience with CMS such as WordPress, analytics, G Suite/Microsoft Office and social media platforms Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment Ability to work independently when required while at the same time operating efficiently in a team dynamic Strong oral and written communication skills and a keen eye for detail
