The current pandemic. I've been out of work since mid-March, have had 2 interviews via phone, video, and in-person. I'm in the IT industry and have a lot of qualifications. Nobody is hiring, even for lowest of IT jobs like helpdesk. It's so frustrating!

July 10, 2020

Texas Workforce Commission -

RE: Reminder to TWC Unemployment Insurance ("UI") Claimants:

The Federal Pandemic Unemployment Insurance ("UI") Compensation, regarding the additional $600 per week, will cease further payments for the last benefit week payment ending on July 25, 2020.

The CARES Act was passed by the U.S. Congress. TWC is responsible for overseeing the payments but only the U.S. Congress can extend the Act.

Question: Will I continue to receive my state Unemployment Insurance ("UI") benefits?

Answer: Yes. You will continue to receive your state Unemployment Insurance ("UI") benefits for as long as you are eligible.

Question: Why is the additional $600/week ending?

Answer: TWC does not have the authority to extend the $600 a week benefit.

The additional $600/week is part of the CARES Act that was passed by the U.S. Congress on March 15, 2020, and signed on March 27, 2020.

TWC is responsible for overseeing all payments, but only the U.S Congress can extend the Act any further.

Question: When is my last payment with the additional $600/week?

Answer: If you request payment for the weeks of 7/18/20 and 7/25/20 you will receive the additional $600 for both weeks.

* If you request payment for the weeks of 7/25/20 and 8//20, you will ONLY receive the additional $600 for the week of 7/25/20 *

The $600.00 benefit ENDS on 7/25/2020.

Question: Why does the additional $600/week end in Texas on 7/25/20 when the CARES Act lists 7/31/20?

Answer: The CARES Act provides federal reimbursement to states for an additional $600 per week. The Act states that the program ends July 31, 2020, but benefits must be discontinued before the end of the month because the federal law states that TWC cannot pay partial week benefits.

The last full benefit week for the extra $600 is for the week ending July 25, 2020.

As a result, only payment requests for weeks ending on or before July 25, 2020, can include the additional $600.

*** Keep your fingers crossed that when our Representatives and Senators return from their 3-week hiatus (vacation), they provide the additional $600.00 per week going forward.

For more information about the CARES Act or your unemployment benefit, please visit our FAQ page.

Those in need of local assistance with utilities or rent are encouraged to call 211.

The toughest part about landing a job right now is...

My age, I don't get alot of responses. One recruiter asked me " how many years you got left in you"? I said F*#& you and hung up.

I turned 66 last April and I am also leery that maybe my age is a factor. I would rather work than just stay home. Just waiting for an employer who would take a chance on me. Heaven help us all.

With all the experience we have dealing with people, we just need to brush up on some computer skills. Maybe you do not. I am going to take a few classes, and apply to work from home. From all these back orders and kids, I have to call them kids because many are clueless. We can do those jobs they are only making min wage. I will miss people, I like to get out but now with the virus, I am happy to work from home.
