The toughest part about finding a job right now

1) Job posts don't stay up long because of (allegedly) a flood of applicants overwhelming employers.

2) Not getting a chance to even interview because so many applicants beat you to it.

The higher your skill level, the less competition you have to deal with. Consider online classes at your local community college's continuing education department. Most courses are free.

If I were looking for a job, I'd be hooked! To all this, when is Bass Pro Shops going to open a store south of Rancho Cucamonga, like closer to San Diego?

Fellow Jobcasers:

I am dismayed at the number of my fellow Jobcasers who claim to have applied to "a hundred different jobs", but receive no responses. The solution to that problem is simple: populate your profile!

You guys remember Leonardo di Caprio's character in Titanic, Jack Dawson? Remember how he said that he made his own luck? So do we.

Start by posting your work experience from the most recent on back. Fill it with achievements and figures before moving to the day-to-day descriptions. You did something, and that's amazing! No work experience? Tell us how you managed your household and put your husband on an allowance. Still in school? Tell us about your good grades, your clubs, honor rolls, and Dean's lists. Just because you don't get paid to study, it doesn't mean that it isn't a career.

Education receives a similar treatment. Again, that Varsity Letter means something, even if you're not professional sports material. FFA? 4-H? VICA? Job Corps? They count more than you think!

Licenses and Certifications: You can't flip a burger without a Food Handler's Card, can you? Put it in your profile!

Your profile is the melody, and you have to toot your own horn. Because if there's no tooting, there is no music!

WHEN YOU ARE WORN OUT NEVER GETTING YOUR CALLS ANSWERED AND CAN'T LOGIN TO FILE AN UNEMPLOYMENT CLAIM...

HERE'S THE INFO YOU NEED TO CONTACT THE: TEXAS WORKFORCE COMMISSION (TWC) - EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP OFFICES.

DON'T BE SHY - GIVE THEM A CALL, LEAVE A MESSAGE ON THEIR RECORDER - BE POLITE AND CALM - LEAVE YOUR NAME, PHONE NUMBER, SS#, AND DATE OF BIRTH - LEAVE THE SAME MESSAGE ON BOTH PHONE NUMBERS BELOW.

SOMEONE WILL CALL YOU BACK IN 3-5 DAYS - THEY ARE VERY NICE, HELPFUL AND HAVE THE AUTHORITY TO SOLVE ALL YOUR PROBLEMS.

IF YOU DON'T HEAR FROM ANYONE IN 3-5 DAYS, THEN CALL THEM BACK AGAIN.

IF YOU ARE HAVING AN EMERGENCY SITUATION, THEN LEAVE A MESSAGE WITH BOTH PEOPLE LISTED BELOW, AND KEEP CALLING THEM EVERYDAY.

TELL THEM YOU HAVE AN EMERGENCY ISSUE AND NEED HELP IMMEDIATELY IF THAT IS THE CASE.

THEY WILL TAKE CARE OF ALL YOUR PROBLEMS - JUST REMEMBER, THEY ARE DEALING WITH MILLIONS OF TEXAN CUSTOMERS THAT LIKEWISE HAVE THE SAME DIFFICULTIES THAT YOU ARE EXPERIENCING.

HERE YOU GO:

TWC Website:

https://www.twc.texas.gov/executive-staff#executiveDirector

Executive Director Ed Serna Phone: 512-305-9636 Contact the Executive Director

Mr. Ed Serna is the executive director of the Texas Workforce Commission charged with day-to-day operations of the agency including implementation of policies set by the commission.

Deputy Executive Director Randy Townsend Phone: 512-463-2698 Contact the Deputy Executive Director

In addition to responsibilities as the Deputy Executive Director, Mr. Townsend also directs the divisions providing core internal services that include:

Business Operations Business Transformation/RPI Finance Information Technology

My hope is that my words will help, assist and encourage you in your time of need - We've all been there dealing with the CORONA -19 issues.

Be Calm, Stay Safe and patient - Eat healthy and drink a lot of water in the coming days when we hit the triple-digit temperatures. Be sure to exercise in the early mornings with pets/kids while the temps are more reasonable.

Just hang in there - Help is on the way if you follow the directions above.

If you are out of food, call Brother Bills in Dallas, or the Dallas Salvation Army - they will get you squared away immediately.

God Bless.

Ricky, Lisa: have you considered bypassing the social distancing and hiring freezes, and going into an Information Technology career? It's a growing field and the computers won't give you cooties.

People, get out your comfort zone and try finding work doing something else. If the restaurants are open for takeout and delivery, don't cry about job as a waiter and be a delivery driver. If you have a skill you haven't put to work yet, apply in that field. There are jobs out there. Not all jobs available are working at a diminished capacity. There is full-time work to be found! Go for it!
